Einführungspraktikum
Bachelor + Graduate
[10 SWS/ ~15 ECTS]
Delivering the introductory lecture “Landscape Perspectives in Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecosystems Connectivity“, within the module “Einführungspraktikum Aquatische Systembiologie”, at the School of Life Sciences, Technical University of Munich. The lecture is followed by a rapid GIS-based exercise on metropolitan blue-green infrastructure connectivity.
2015- 2022
Bachelor
[10 ECTS]
Architectural Design studio I & II, are aimed to make the bridging between the conceptual discourse on basic design during the first year and the architecture design for real life situations. Yet, a considerable importance is given to the initial stage of architectural design process; the Concept development. The CONCEPT idea which is expected to be generated via a thorough analysis of the CONTEXT in which the architectural product will be settled and the CONTENT for which it will serve for.
The main objective of Arch 201 Architectural Design Studio is to introduce students with the real life factors, as direct parameters affecting the architectural design decisions.
2021- 2022
GIS Applications for Planners
Graduate
[6 ECTS]
ARCH 463 is an introductory course about real life applications of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in the territorial management and planning. Students are introduced to various available GIS software, but in practice sessions only the open-source software and freely available data are promoted. The learning method relies on research-based learning via problem-oriented research. First, students are expected to clearly define a real life problem at the metropolitan scale from a context they are familiar with. Then, in small groups they are guided to structure a GIS-based method for understanding, analyzing, and proposing solutions.
2020- 2021
Graduate
[6 ECTS]
The still existing approach in architectural and urban design is aiming to provide more efficient, more aesthetical, and safer buildings and urban environments for people. While, this approach is not sustainable enough in the long-run. The goal of this course is to divert the research interest of young professionals towards the landscape approach, in which the built environment is considered complementary to the natural systems of the territory. Landscape approach, fundamentally relies on the most specific local properties of the context at local scale, while being aware of the prevailing challenges of global scale. The main objective of this course is to enable students (future architects & urban planners) to think beyond the built environment.
2019- 2020
Graduate
[6 ECTS]
This course focuses on the urban planning and design practices that are scientifically or ideally inspired by natural systems. Nature here is an encompassing concept of all living being surrounding us. In other words, these design and planning practices are driven by certain natural systems of micro to macro scales. The main objective of this course is to highlight the importance of Nature-Based Solutions in Urban Challenges of the Modern City. it aims to well-define the green-blue infrastructure of the city as a crucial layer of the urbanized surfaces. Moreover, mapping techniques of Landscape infrastructure is another core goal.
2018- 2019
Landscape Urbanism
Ph.D.
[7.5 ECTS]
This course is designed to foster didactic research in Landscape Research, with a specific focus on the complex interplay between artificial and natural surfaces within a given territory. The course explores both urbanized and suburban areas, examining how human interventions shape the landscape and influence ecological and environmental processes.
A central theme of the course is landscape connectivity and fragmentation—key concepts in understanding how landscapes function ecologically and socially.
Through both theoretical discussions and practical applications, students analyze strategies to mitigate fragmentation, promote sustainable urban planning, and foster more resilient and interconnected landscapes.
2019- 2020
Landscape Perspectives in DRM & FS
Graduate
[7.5 ECTS]
2016- 2022
Supervised Independent Study and Research
Graduate
[12 ECTS]
The course aims to establish a clear framework for conducting research by defining the primary subject of investigation, outlining the research methodology, and reviewing the current state of knowledge within the selected topic. It emphasizes identifying the core research problem and analyzing existing approaches to address it. A thorough literature review and analysis of relevant case studies are integral to advancing the research and situating it within a broader academic and practical context.
As part of the course, the type of data to be collected and processed will be determined, providing a foundation for structured and meaningful research.
2016- 2022
Master Thesis
Graduate
[30 ECTS]
The Master’s thesis research in the Department of Architecture is an independent, student-driven project that allows for an in-depth exploration of a chosen topic within architecture, urbanism, or landscape studies. Guided by weekly mentoring meetings with the supervisor, students define a clear research problem, establish objectives, and develop a structured methodology. Through literature reviews, case study analyses, and data-driven research, students develop a comprehensive understanding of their subject matter. The ultimate goal is to produce a well-articulated thesis that demonstrates independent critical thinking, methodological rigor, and the ability to propose meaningful solutions within the architectural discourse.
